Eight quick tips for tackling the operational risk book:

  1. Pick up this book last and try to finish it in four weeks.
  2. Categorize the readings into three different parts. Focus more on the first part as it provides a broad overview of operational risk, and the second part because it is more scoring in the exam.
  3. Use learning objectives to break down long, text-heavy readings into manageable chunks and to understand what is testable and what is not.
  4. Enhance your learning by using a diverse set of resources, including YouTube videos.
  5. Engage with the material as much as possible. Draw flow charts and mind maps, and connect what you’re reading with real-life examples.
  6. Reinforce your learning using quizzes, which is especially important for the readings on the Basel Accords and RAROC.
  7. Keep revising what you’ve already learned.
  8. Focus on high-impact readings, while everything else can be done on a best-efforts basis.
